A season of few draws
Tottenham have been the major contributor to and the driving force behind a remarkable Premier League season.
Everyone has focussed on the lack of draws in our games and the individual record, but nobody has looked at the overall picture.
Let's put that straight.
In 1890/91 in the old First Division, there were just 12.12% of games that finished in a draw.
In 1931/32 in the old First Division, there were just 17.75% of games that finished in a draw.
In 1976/77 in the old First Division, there were just 18.40% of games that finished in a draw.
In 1929/30 in the old First Division, there were just 18.83% of games that finished in a draw.
In 2018/19 in the new English Premier League format, there have been just 19.06% games finishing in a draw.
There was only one from ten games last weekend. There are just five Premier League games this weekend and if none of these finish in a draw then 2018/19 will temporarily overtake 1929/30 and move into fourth place.
What is the magic figure?
Eleven, if there are less than eleven draws, that is to say, ten or less, for the rest of the season, then this season becomes the season with the second highest percentage of draws in the history of the game.
