Mauricio Pochettino happy with the squad he has |
So the summer transfer window is shut and we can look at what our rivals have bought, none look to have significantly strengthened and turmoil could see us finishing higher this season.
Mauricio Pochettino: “It’s true our targets are always the same level as Manchester United, Manchester City or Real Madrid, but for different circumstances we can’t achieve that"

There is nothing to be concerned with. How many of their signings would get into the side of another Top 6 club? they look to have bought players rather than strengthened and with a new manager may take time to get what he wants across to the players. I see Arsenal finishing outside the top four.

Chelsea have replaced one decent goalkeeper with another and as part of Thibaut Courtois going to Real Madrid, Chelsea demanded midfielder Mateo Kovacic in return, they managed to get him on loan. In addition, they have added midfielder Jorginho from Napoli who is new to the Premier League. You can see improvement, but you wouldn't say it is massive and again they have to get used to a new coach's ideas. They will challenge for fourth.

Liverpool have bought players who would be squad players at most other Top 4 clubs perhaps. I don't rate Shaqiri at all and no club has ever hung on to him. We will wait and see, but I don't see Naby Keita as any better than Victor Wanyama. Will Liverpool be inconsistent this season, they are unlikely to get an easy Champions League path two seasons in a row. Certainly a top-four contender and I would still put them above Chelsea.

Manchester City have only added Ryad Magrez of not. Will they be as strong as last year or will sides have figured them out? They have to be favourites to win a second title in a row.

Manchester United have bought a right-back who shouldn't frighten anybody and Fred, a defensive midfielder to replace the retired Michael Carrick. They have not strengthened appreciatively and the camp doesn't appearto be a happy one. Top four contenders yes, but will they finish as high as last season? I don't think so, I see them finishing perhaps fourth.

A strong squad who finished third last season containing a World Cup winner and the Golden Boot winner, together with seven other semi-finalists. I don't think some of our fans appreciate how good a squad we have got. Yes it can be improved, of course, it can, but, it only needs the right players added, not just anybody for the sake of making a signing to appease fans.
Whether fans egos have been said is irrelevant, whether we are stronger than last season is all that matters and having lost no players and with an improving side we look to have a better season than last season and I see us finishing second, making into the knockout rounds of the UEFA Champions League and a final of one of the domestic cups.
Mauricio Pochettino only wanted certain players and as they were not possible to sign was happy to continue to develop what we have. Lucas Moura will be like a new signing, he hardly played last season and Kyle Walker-Peters is a year older.
