Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas spoke with Jordanian King Abdullah II over the phone last night, Wednesday, regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, according to Jerusalem Online's Becca Noy.According to Jordanian media, the two discussed efforts to bring Israel and the PA back to the negotiating table. The discussion took place in preparation for Abbas' meeting with US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner and Special Representative for International Negotiations Jason Greenblatt.
During a meeting held in Ramallah with a delegation of Knesset members and senior-level officials from the Israeli left-wing Meretz party earlier this week, Abbas said that “there is a feeling of chaos” within Trump’s administration and that it is unclear whether Washington can focus on the peace process and reach a diplomatic agreement.
Deputy National Security Adviser Dina Powell joins Trump's White House delegation, which has already met with leaders in Jordan, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia.
"While the regional talks will play an important role, the president reaffirms that peace between Israelis and Palestinians can only be negotiated directly between the two parties and that the United States will continue working closely with the parties to make progress towards that goal," a senior White House official was quoted by Jerusalem Online as stating.
