Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Wednesday evening visited the town of Katzrin, in the Golan Heights, and responded to the incident in which a mortar shell from Syrialanded on the Golan Heights.The IDF retaliated for the incident, attacking a mortar site belonging to the Syrian regime from which the rocket was fired.
"We are here celebrating the fortieth anniversary of Katzrin, the capital of the Golan Heights. I said that we will not tolerate spillover and that we will respond to every firing,” Netanyahu said.
“During my speech shells from the Syrian side landed in our territory and the IDF has already struck back. Whoever attacks us – we will attack him. This is our policy and we will continue with it," he stressed.
Wednesday's incident is not the first time this week that the Syrian civil war has spilled over into Israel.
On Sunday, several mortar shells exploded in an open area in the northern Golan Heights. Israel later retaliated by attacking two Syrian artillery pieces and an ammunition truck on the Syrian side of the northern Golan Heights.
On Monday, mortar fire from Syria struck Israel, sparking fires in the northern Golan Heights.
